MY PLEDGE TO WALKER COUNTY CITIZENS
*I will continue the professionalism and open door policy in the Sheriff's Office.
*I will continue to be fiscally responsible while managing the Sheriff's Office to meet the needs of our citizens.
*I will continue to serve and protect our citizens with highly trained personnel who are supplied with the latest equipment and technology.
*I will continue to seek state and federal grant funding to supplement the Sheriff's Office operations.
*I will continue to work with Walker County Schools to teach our children life skills and to supply School Resource Officers to ensure the safety of our Walker County Kids.
*I will work with Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) to develop a law enforcement training center in Walker County.
ABOUT SHERIFF STEVE WILSON
* Born and raised in LaFayette, Georgia
*Married to the love of my life, Sandy Wilson
*Sandy and I have three children and three grandchildren
*Resident of LaFayette, Georgia
Member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Chickamauga, Georgia
Fan of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Professional Accomplishments
*Graduated from LaFayette High School in 1975 and attended Northern Virginia Community College.
Served with the FBI in Washington, DC from 1976 to 1979 as a fingerprint examiner and security officer.
Employed with the Georgia Department of Corrections from 1979 to 1980.
Served as a police officer with the LaFayette Police Department from 1980 to 1986.
Employed with the Walker County Sheriff Office from 1986 to 1996 as a Deputy Sheriff, Detective, and Commander of the four counties Drug Task Force.
Began campaigning for Sheriff of Walker County in April 1996
*Elected in the General Election on November 5, 1996; 73% of the vote
*Took Office of Sheriff of Walker County, Georgia on January 1, 1997
* Re-Elected on November 7, 2000; 73% of the vote

Implemented first School Resource Officer Program in Walker County at Ridgeland High School in 1997
Implemented a Domestic Violence Investigation Unit to assist victims of domestic violence.
Implemented a K-9 Drug Detection Unit to assist in arresting drug dealers.
Implemented an Inmate Chaplain Program at the Walker County Jail.
Implemented Project H.O.P.E. to provide a daily check on Walker County's senior citizens.
Partnered with a local church to create the Hug-a-Bear Program that provides teddy bears to children who have been traumatized
Supporter of the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes. Raised over $50,000 from 2001-2004 through the Clays for Kids Project.
Instrumental in planning and overseeing construction in 2000 of the 96-bed addition to the Walker County Jail.
Secured a state grant to fund the first automated fingerprint transmission system in Northwest Georgia
Helped to raise over $60,000 to fund The Cottage in 2003
Volunteers to read to students at the Elementary Schools
Co-host weekly "Sheriffs' Talk" UCTV3
Expanded the Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love to serve over 2,000 children annually since 2011.
